Life in the Za’atari Refugee Camp

The Za’atari Refugee camp is located across the border of Syria, tucked in the municipality of Umm al-Jimal. Since 2012, the camp has grown from a collection of scattered tents to a settlement of 80,000 refugees. Here are a few facts to conceptualize the magnitude of the largest camp in Jordan:
· As of February 2018, there are 78,994 Syrian refugees in the Za’atari camp
· 461,701 refugees have been through the camp
· 57% of refugees are under 24 years old
· There is an average of 80 births per week in the camp
· 3,000 informal shops and businesses have been created
